how the Junk Genie works.
You think of any two digit number (say 15) then you subtract the single digits of that number from that number (15-1-5 = 9). Then you pick a square with the label “Cardboard”, “washer” or whatever and the Junk Genie guesses right every time.
The algorithm solves for numbers as a multiple of 9, so the only possible numbers are 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81, 90 and 99.
Notice how the squares on all these numbers are labelled the same?
Case solved. That grad degree in Econ is starting to pay off.

Yes, he did. Every time you reload the “selection” page the items in the 9,18,27, etc… change. The math of picking a 2 digit number and subtracting the number will always be a multiple of 9. If you look at the “selection” page the items that are under a multiple of 9 are all the same. Hence, even when you pick a different number it will always be what you picked, as long as you can do basic subtraction correctly
