Here’s a meme for you: The Motto 6/49 Meme. The 6/49 has nothing to do with anything whatsoever. It’s what the Grandinite Marketing Department advised. I better get a new monkey.
Fire off a few examples of the following:
1. What you think Alberta’s Motto should be (Other than Strong and Free).
2. A cool quote about livin’ life.
3. What you think your last name means, as far as you can tell. (Just substitute the words “my last name” in place of your real last name if you want to).
4. Your motto for the day.
Here’s mine:
1. What you think Alberta’s Motto should be (Other that Strong and Free).
Alberta: Givin’ ‘er is Livin’ ‘er.
2. A cool quote about livin’ life.
“You always have choices. You just have to make sure you make the right one” - Police guy on Invasion.
3. What you think your last name means, as far as you can tell.
Braaten reminds people of Bratwurst, a fine German meat encased in pig intestine that is best served with a stein of lager and sauerkraut. I often get called a “Dirty German” because of this. However, Braaten refers to three farming villages in Norway and how the farmers there cleared their land - by burning it. My family’s crest has a giant picture of a burning pile of trees after a field has been cleared - like the ones you see on freshly cleared pipelines. The name “Braaten” is pronounced “Broh-then” in Norway, or “BrAh-ten” in North America and roughly translates as “Lighter of forest fires” which explains why Grandpa was a Pulp & Paper union man, Dad a fire fighter and me a person with pyromaniacal tendencies in general. I have never been to the Burning Man festival.
4. Your motto for the day.
All right you buncha slackjaws. Here’s what you do. Push on. Persevere. Overcome. - From Bruce, Graham Construction Nighshift Foreman, last summer.
