Well, tomorrow I fly back to the homeland to terrify everyone with my new Yankee accent. I’m trying to blend in with my home country a bit better, but it’s not working. I guess I say school, tool, pool and cool funny. As soon as I say those words, people pick up on the fact I’m Canadian, and my cover is blown.
“Hey - where’s your Canada flag patch? Never mind that - aren’t you supposed to have a backpack with a Tim Horton’s mug swinging from a carabiner? Where in the sweet fudge is your hockey stick, son?” they ask.
All the dang yankees say I pronounce school like skule, and cool like cule. When they say it, it’s coo . . .l with more emphasis on the o and a faint l.
Freakin’ yankees don’t say nuthin’ right.
Well, I’m creepin’ across the border this week so I can slide across the stage at the U of A Jubilee auditorium, to grab my degree out of the U of A President’s hands, shake some sweaty ballsweat-bacteria-laden hands and then flash the crowd.
Ferreal.
Mad props to the NeoHomeland.
Take it away, Mr. Hogan.

Pennsylvanians sound funny–even to other Almericans. If you can get the book, get “Mickelsson’s Ghosts, by John Champlin Gardner, you’ll see what fun he has with that accent.
I was surprised to learn the mountains of Pennsylvania were the original home of Brigham Young and the Mormons before they made their trek to Utah.
Loved Gardner’s writing.
…Too bad he wrote himself off on a motorbike by age 49!

So that’s how B. Young bought it, on a motorbike? Are you sure you aren’t getting him mixed up with Bob Dylan? He got it on a motorbike too. Not much of a Triumph, if you ask me. Recycling before their time!

Not Brigham Young, Tom.
Young went to Utah.
John Gardner, the writer, um, wrote himself off on a bike.
